Bollywood Beats Meet Gaming Fun In Our New Game App

Gaana Pehchaana began as live games played by a large group of friends in Houston, Texas. With time, the founders of Gaana Pehchaana decided to build the game concepts into a game app format for smartphones.

The mission of Gaana Pehchaana has been to entertain Bollywood music fans through the most unique, mind-blowing games, informative blogs and other attractive content based on Bollywood music.

Hindi film songs are an inseparable part of Indian culture and have been putting a smile on the faces of music lovers since the 1930s to today. It might sound ancient but they are precious to our country.

Bollywood Music has always set the highest standards of excellence and entertainment. They are showered with more love than the films. The big disappointment is that the life and soul behind these songs, the singers, composers, lyricists and instrumentalists don’t get the due respect like the film stars. The GP website and app are a tiny effort to pay respect to these artists and their creations which have altered the lives of trillions of people over so many years.

The app has some super exciting games that you can enjoy any time of the day. Either play them alone or play them with your friends and family. You’ll surely have a once in a lifetime experience.

Design your own games on our game app – GaanaP:

First, choose your Difficulty Levels – Sa is the easiest and Pa is the hardest.  Then select the decade of your choice. You might have a taste for old Hindi songs or something from the 2000s. Choose the decade based on that. Now let’s take a look at each of our fun games!

Bhagam Bhag

(Single player game)

What does the name of this game suggest? Bhagam Bhag might sound like you need to run as fast as possible. Isn’t it? This fast game is all about being quick.

Most players enjoy playing Bhagam Bhag. It’s a super fun game in which the player has to guess as many songs as possible within a fixed time limit (Usually 1 minute)

As soon as you click let’s play, the song clip starts playing. Be quick to identify the songs. If you play a higher level of difficulty (…Ga Ma Pa), you win a higher score.

It’s easy to score the maximum points in this game. Just play and check your position on the Master Leaderboard.

Theek Thaak Ho

(Double Player game)

Want to play games for more than a single player? Theek Thaak Ho is a two-player game. It’s the musical version of the old-school time game that we played as kids. We used to call it Tic-Tac-Toe Remember??

Each tile has a short musical clip that plays as soon as the tile is clicked. The first player can place an “X” on a tile by properly guessing the clip. Player 2 can do the same thing with an “O”. The first player to get 3 X’s and O’s in a line vertically, horizontally or diagonally wins the game.

Player 1 invites Player 2 to join and Player 1 starts the game. Player 1 chooses a tile and clicks on the music note in it. A short clip will play with multiple-choice answers. In case, player 1 chooses the right answer, an ” X” is placed on the tile. If the answer is wrong, the tile is back in place for player 2. It is now player 2’s chance to choose a tile and identify the clip.

If player 2 chooses the right answer, an ‘O’ is placed in that tile. In case, the answer is not right, the tile is back in place for Player 1. The first player to get three ‘Xs or ‘O’s in a line wins. If all nine tiles are played and there is no three-in-a-row, the game is a draw. It’s easy and good for time passing or chilling out. Try it out if you haven’t played it yet.

Ansuna

(Single Player game)

Did you not hear something?? Did you miss out on some songs? This game is all about that. So, you need to keep your ears in a good place to play this one.

For every Ansuna game, 4 song names will be provided. But, only 3 song clips will be played automatically one after the other. As soon as you recognise a song, click the song name in the list present at the bottom.  The moment you recognise the three songs, the remaining unselected clip is your “Ansuna” answer. Submit your answer.

As soon as you recognise a song, you can start the next clip by clicking on the play button for that clip.

Wish to play the same game once again? Just click the replay icon. You can challenge your friends to play the game that you just played by clicking on the challenge icon. Enter your friend’s email address and an invite will go out to them.

If you are on a trip to some far-off destination. This will be a great game to play while traveling.

Teen Maar Khan

(Single Player game)

Named after the popular film “Tees Maar Khan”, ” Teen Maar Khan” is a magical game on the GaanaP app. The name signifies teen baar maar khaya to gaya!  Are you brave enough to face the maars??

Select your choice of decades. Choose a TMK game from that category. Click the let’s play button to hear the songs. Tap on your answer. Start with Sa and move to the next level if your answer is correct. Don’t worry if “maar khaya” and you got it wrong.  You have two more chances at that level.  Correct answers are awarded points as per the clip level. After 3 maars or wrong chances, the game will end.

Recognise the clip at half-time and win bonus points. The diamond disc signifies “BONUS POINTS”.

It’s that simple. Just give it a try.

Aur Sunao

(Single Player game)

Gaane ko theek se nahin suna? Thoda aur suno and aur suno. If you don’t recognise it you can listen to it a little bit more. You can use tokens to win the game. Play it and see whether you are smart enough.

Click on the Let’s Play button. A song clip will play for a few seconds and stop. Each clip is divided into ‘N’ segments. Already identified the clip? Click on the right answer from the options below. Don’t know the answer? Click the mic icon to play for a few more seconds. The score reduces by 1 with every new segment played.

Guess as many clips as you can within the allotted time. You can replay the game anytime. Select the 50:50 button to remove 2 wrong choices at a token cost. Select ‘Double Time’ at a token cost.

Browse through our energetic game app GaanaP to play these games, read the information-packed blogs that will keep you glued to the end, participate in LIVE events and discover never known before trivia. You’ll enjoy the GaanaP app like never before. Find it at the AppStore / Play Store.

Why Composer Madan Mohan Couldn’t Be Happy When Alive?

A few days back, it was legendary music composer Madan Mohan Kohli’s birthday. He was an artist who deserved a lot more in his lifetime, but unfortunately, he did not get what he should have, when alive. The miseries of struggling in the industry, turned him into an alcoholic and unfortunately he died of liver cirrhosis at a very young age.

Was Madan Mohan Known As Ghazal Ka Shehzada?

He was born in Baghdad, Iran and had a sophisticated, suave personality which was unlike that of any other music director in the industry. Nobody could imagine that a man like him could so easily mould elements of Indian classical music into new styles of Hindi Film Music.

Lata Mangeshkar fondly called him “Ghazal Ka Shehzada”. He beautifully infused the traditional elements of Indian music into his work. His area of expertise was not just ghazals, but he excelled in almost every genre.

Why He Didn’t Match Up To The Parameters Of Success?

Madan Mohan With Wife And Raj Kapoor

Source: https://bit.ly/3h5N49j

Aap Ki Nazron Ne Samjha, Aye Dil Mujhe Bata De, Naina Barse Rimjhim Rimjhim, Tu Jahan Jahan Chalega, Zaroorat Hai Zaroorat Hai etc are a few compositions by Madan Mohan that can easily defeat any other contemporary or old composition.

He wasn’t lucky enough to get the big films or compose for the big stars and production houses, which were the parameters of success in those days. A few of his compositions for Dev Anand turned into flops. He composed some great numbers for Raj Kapoor and some to be sung by Kishore Kumar, but somehow, his work did not get proper appreciation and it all went down the gutter.

Recognition And Fame After Death

It was much later that his compositions were used for superhit films like Veer Zaara and some of his unknown work was dug out by his sons to be enjoyed by the public. His tracks would be on the top of the charts like Binaca Geetmala for months.

Today, we’ll be reading about some of his songs, but before that let’s know more about a Teen Maar Khan game specially dedicated to him.

Play TMK- 260 [Happy Birthday Madan Mohan! (June- 25)] & Be The Highest Scorer

This game has been made for the Teen Maar Khans of Bollywood Music like you. If you have keen interest in Bollywood Music from every decade, you’ll surely enjoy our game based on the songs of Madan Mohan Ji. You’ll win points for every correct answer, but lose points the moment you make a wrong guess. Three wrong guesses will end up disqualifying you from the game. Play carefully to be the champion and make it to the top of the Master Leaderboard. Install the app on your Android or iOS device to start playing.

Now, enjoy the blog!!

Aye Dil Mujhe Bata De (1956)

Ae Dil Mujhe Bata De Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://bit.ly/3qtXbcr

Music: Madan Mohan

Lyrics: Rajendra Krishna

Singer: Geeta Dutt

Movie: Bhai Bhai

A highly popular number in which we find actress Shyama as the seductress dancing around Ashok Kumar. The tune by Madan Ji continues to ring in our ears. The music is evergreen and would sound great even if used in a modern song.

Every boy and girl of that generation must have sung it after falling in love. Geeta Dutt’s sweet voice makes us nostalgic as we lose ourselves in the old days we had heard about from our grandparents.

Zaroorat Hai Zaroorat Hai (1962)

Zaroori Hai Zaroori Hai Zaroori Hai Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://bit.ly/3jg2tXf

Music: Madan Mohan

Lyrics: Rajendra Krishan

Singers: Kishore Kumar

Movie: Man-Mauji

The entire Man-Mauji album was composed by Madan Mohan, but this one song broke all records. It has a comic touch to it and Kishore Kumar makes it more satirical with his lady-like behaviour.

It is Sadhana who makes most of the Madan Mohan compositions amazing with her superb acting, her lively expressions and stunning dance moves. The funny lyrics and the evergreen composition continues to live on within us.

Naina Barse Rim Jhim Rim Jhim (1964)

Naina Barse Rimjhim Rimjhim Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://bit.ly/3h7dEip

Music: Madan Mohan

Lyrics: Raja Mehdi Ali Khan

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

Movie: Woh Kaun Thi

This is the spookiest music composed by Madan Mohan and surprisingly, the tune stays on in your mind, long time after you’ve watched the movie. Anybody can easily connect to the track.

Lata Mangeshkar’s childlike voice does absolute justice to Madan Mohan’s music for the mind-blowing thriller. In fact, all the songs from Woh Kaun Thi composed by Madan Ji were big hits. The plot and the songs keep you glued to the film.

Lag Ja Gale (1964)

Lag Ja Gale Gaana Pehchaana

Music: Madan Mohan

Lyrics: Raja Mehndi Ali Khan

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

Movie: Woh Kaun Thi

There might not be a single Indian who hasn’t heard of “Lag Ja Gale”. It’s about to be 60 years old, but the way it captivates Indian hearts, it is surely a gem of a song.

It  can make chills run down your spine anytime you listen to it. Shot amidst a barren jungle in the middle of the night, Sadhana and Manoj Kumar’s chemistry, as well as the picturisation of the song, are very different. It was quite an expensive song at that time. Madan Mohan, Mehndi Ali Khan and Lata Mangeshkar’s trio created something that nobody has been able to recreate.

Jhumka Gira Re Bareli Ke Bazaar Mein (1966)

Jhumka Gira Re Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://bit.ly/3qrPT92

Music: Madan Mohan

Lyrics: Raja Mehdi Ali Khan

Singer: Asha Bhosle

Movie: Mera Saaya

This can be titled as the most famous Hindi Film song ever. Jhumka Gira Re is replete with nomadic tunes. You’ll hear the beats of a dafli, dhol and everything else that you can imagine a nomad girl to be dancing on.

We love watching Sadhana dance like crazy to the fabulous composition by Madan Mohan, brought to life through Raja Mehdi Ali Khan’s energetic lyrics and Asha Bhosle’s classy voice. Sadhana looks scary as she murders someone just after dancing to this number..

Mera Saaya Saath Hoga (1966)

Mera Saaya Saath Hoga Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://bit.ly/3haoh3R

Music: Madan Mohan

Lyrics: Raja Mehdi Ali Khan

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

Movie: Mera Saaya

“Tu Jahan Jahan Chalega, Mera Saaya Saath Hoga ” is an immortal classic from the film “Mera Saaya” by Raj Khosla. This melody proves that Madan Mohan was actually god gifted and deserved a lot more accolades for his work. Mera Saaya sets him apart from all ordinary music composers. Lata ji’s singing still leaves our minds blown whenever we listen to this song. It’s a favourite of millions from different age groups.

Teri Aankhon Ke Siwa Duniya Mein Rakha Kya Hai (1969)

Tere Aankhon Ke Siva Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://bit.ly/3hbaslM

Music: Madan Mohan

Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri

Singers: Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi

Movie: Chiraag

This amazing track brings to mind Asha Parekh and Sunil Dutt’s romantic exchange of glances where Sunil Dutt can be seen singing “Ye uthe subah chale, ye jhuke shaam dhale” dedicating it to Asha Parekh’s gorgeous eyes.

Raj Khosla, the director of Chiraag wanted Majrooh Sultanpuri to borrow a few lines from Faiz’s poetry for “Teri Aankhon Ke Siwa”, so Sultanpuri used some of the lines after seeking proper permission. It’s a heart melting number that can still make you go weak in the knees.

Tere Liye Hum Hain Jiye (2004)

Tere Liye Madan Mohan

Source: https://bit.ly/3xYIKiT

Music: Madan Mohan

Lyrics: Javed Akhtar

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar, Roop Kumar Rathod

Movie: Veer Zaara

After Madan Mohan’s death, his son Sanjeev Kohli discovered a few compositions of his dad hidden in a cupboard, which the children were not allowed to touch. He was surprised to hear the mind blowing music. It was revised by his son and used for Veer Zaara on Chopra’s insistence. Tere Liye became a cult number in the history of Bollywood Music.

Both Madan Ji and Javed Ji were nominated as the Best Music Director and Best Lyricist at the 50th Filmfare awards and Madan Ji won the Best Music Director award at the 6th IIFA Awards. Lata Mangeshkar had tears rolling down her eyes while singing it as she missed the old days with her brother Madan Mohan. Preity Zinta and Shahrukh Khan made the song more heart touching with their perfect acting.

Rash Driving Or Appreciation?

Madan Mohan owned a white and blue Studebaker car and used to take his wife and kids for a drive around Worli Sea Face. On one such occasion, he was driving quite fast and before anybody knew it, they could hear police sirens and a jeep following them. They got worried and his wife thought that they had broken the speed limit.

A senior officer came down from the jeep to their car, as Madan rolled down the window and said sorry, the officer replied that no Madanji, don’t be sorry. I only stopped you to say that your music in ‘Anpadh’ deserved the Filmfare Award. Madan Mohan was so touched that he told his wife “see I have been given my award”, as the small appreciation meant much more to him than any award.

Why Gaana Pehchaana Should Be There On Your Android/ iOS Devices?

Hindi Film Music has delighted audiences and listeners right from the 1930s to 2020s and is a national treasure. The music from these movies always set higher standards of excellence and entertainment than the movies, yet the people behind these songs, the composers, singers, lyricists and instrumentalists don’t get anywhere near the recognition that the stars acting in the films do. Ganna Pehchaana is a small effort to pay tribute to these artists through short quiz games, live gaming events, engaging blogs revealing little known secrets and other fun content.

Play Live, Play Against Others

Another fun thing launched by Gaana Pehchaana is GaanaP Live!  It’s a LIVE Game Show in which you can play together with fellow Bollywood Music Fans from around the world. You can get invited to the next GaanaP Live by registering here. Check out these videos on YouTube to learn more about GaanaP Live!

Why Demise Of Composer Raam-Laxman Is A Huge Loss To Bollywood?

A few days back, we heard that Vijay Patil or Laxman of the popular Raam-Laxman composer duo has passed away at the age of 78, due to a sudden cardiac arrest.

We were disheartened, and the entire Bollywood fraternity mourned the loss of a musical gem who continued to compose music even after the demise of his partner Surendra Hindre.

Raam-laxman’s musical journey began with Vijay’s orchestral venture. He was an expert at playing the accordion and named his orchestra “Amar”, after his son’s name.

Who Brought Raam and Laxman Together?

Popular comedian, Dada Kondke was so impressed by his orchestra, that he asked him to make music for the popular 1975 Marathi comedy, “Pandu Hawaldar”.

He composed it along with his friend Raam, and it became a super-duper hit. This established their lifelong relationship with Kondke, who lovingly named the duo Raam-Laxman.

Biggest Musical Hits Of Our Generation

The duo created music for the biggest blockbuster hits like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Patthar Ke Phool, Hum Saath Saath Hain and Hum Aapke Hain Koun.

Raam-Laxman’s music is always fresh and never fails to strike a chord with the people, even after so many decades.

What is it about their compositions that make them so special for the actors, singers and music lovers till today? Let’s find out in today’s Gaana Pehchaana blog!!

Sultana, Sultana Mera Naam Hain Sultana (1979)

Sultana Sultana Mera Naam Hain Sultana Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/AnsyuXW

Music: Raam- Laxman

Lyrics: Ravindra Rawal

Singer: Usha Mangeshkar

Movie: Taraana

Taraana left a long-lasting impression on Bollywood lovers because of its music. This song sounds like something straight out of an Arabian Nights tale. The tune also has nomadic undertones. Raam-Laxman or Vijay Patil Ji considered Usha Mangeshkar to be his favourite singer. Her voice texture and singing style have a different kind of beauty. Ravindra Rawal has painted a beautiful story about a nomad girl with his soul-stirring lyrics. Watch the video to enjoy the song.

Music: Raam Laxman

Lyrics: Dev Kohli

Singers: Lata Mangeshkar, S P Balasubrahmanyam

Movie: Hum Aapke Hain Koun

Another family dhamaka number composed by Raam-Laxman and sung by Lata Mangeshkar, SP Balasubramanyam.

“Didi Tera Devar Deewana” is a song that remains at the tip of every Indian’s tongue. The songs and the film were so well received that Hum Aapke Hain Koun turned out to be the highest-grossing Indian film of the 1990s and the maximum earning Indian film at that time.

This track was inspired by an Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan song called Saare Nabian. The song remained at the top of the charts for more than a year.

Blockbuster India described the movie as the “Biggest Blockbuster of the Modern Era”. Even the Telugu version called Premalayam ran for more than 200 days. The track is all about a big family party where the boys and the girls get into different groups to have fun and tease each other.

Music: Raam-Laxman

Lyrics: Dev Kohli

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

Movie: Maine Pyar Kiya

Ah, what a song! This came along in Salman Khan, Bhagyashree and Sooraj Barjatya’s life when they were still in the struggling phase and turned them into the most sought after stars. Raam-Laxman’s super successful compositions played the biggest role in helping Sooraj Barjatya turn the movie into a massive hit.

These movies would stay in the theatres for more than 150 weeks, which is unbelievable now. It was a big break for Dev Kohli after his first film and Lata Mangeshkar rocked with her singing.

Many people have heard this number again and again but they might not be aware of who wrote it, composed it or sang it. Lata Mangeshkar and S.P Balasubramaniam did

complete justice to the relatable music by Raam-Lakshman.

Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit’s chemistry took a different turn along with this beautiful number in the thrilling supernatural cinema. The combination of stringed instruments, wind instruments, tabla and all create a versatile rhythm that you won’t be able to stop listening to.

The songs and the games from Hum Aapke Hain Koun were so well received by the Indian audience that no wedding would be complete without them. Lata Mangeshkar sang 11 of the songs out of 15.

The winner of 5 Filmfare awards, Hum Aapke Hain Koun became a part of our being with amazing melodies like Pehla Pehla Pyar written beautifully by Dehradun based Dev Kohli, composed by the most talented Raam-Laxman and sung by S.P Balasubramaniam.

Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999)

Hum Saath Saath Hain Title Song

Music: Raam Laxman

Lyrics: Dev Kohli

Singer: Kavita Krishnamurthy, Kumar Sanu, Hariharan, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Anuradha Paudwal

Movie: Hum Saath Saath Hain

Raam-Laxman has always been grateful to Tarachand Barjatya for giving them the scope to shine in Hindi films. Laxman or Vijay Patil says that Rajshri Banner brought all the luck in their lives. Rajshri movies are completely about family, love and laughter without any villains or vamps. Sooraj Barjatya claims to make his films based on the values that he has grown up with or seen around him in his Marwari family.

Kavita Krishnamurthy, Kumar Sanu, Hariharan, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan and Anuradha Paudwal make the Mohnish-Tabu, Salman-Sonali and Saif-Karishma pair shine on screen with their spectacular matching attires. We just can’t get over this title track from our childhood even after so many years.

Maiyya Yashoda (1999)

Maiyya Yashoda Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/ynsyGU9

Music: Raam-Laxman

Lyrics: Kiran R

Singers: Alka Yagnik, Anuradha Paudwal

Movie: Hum Saath Saath Hain

Maiyya Yashoda is a priceless gem from the end of the 20th century composed by Raam-Laxman. These were the last of the biggest hits before the 21st century began and the meaning of hit music changed altogether.

Anuradha Paudwal was already the guru of devotional music and with the help of Alka Yagnik, she sang this memorable melody penned down by Kiran R which still makes us nostalgic and reminds us of those old days when family gatherings had a different flavour.

Karishma Kapoor, Sonali Bendre and Tabu have been picturised as Radha. Saif Ali Khan, Salman Khan and Mohnish Bahl are the naughty Krishna’s, whereas Reema Lagoo is shown as Maiyya Yashoda.

Ye To Sach Hai Ki Bhagwan Hain (1999)

Yeh To Sach Hain Ki Bhagwan Hai Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/YnsyLBL

Music: Raam-Laxman

Lyrics: Ravindra Rawal

Singers: Hariharan, Pratima Rao, Ghanshyam Vaswani, Santosh Tiwari, Ravinder Rawal

Movie: Hum Saath Saath Hain

All songs from Hum Saath Saath Hain were composed by Raam-Laxman and surprisingly the audience showered a lot of love and respect on each of the songs. Every song is a gem on its own. A different set of instruments have been used for each of them.

“Ye To Sach Hai Ki Bhagwan Hain” is a group song sung by many different artists. It is all about God coming into our lives in the form of parents. The family set-up for the song is a typical Sooraj Barjatya one.

What Raam-Laxman’s Dhamakedaar Music Means To Bollywood Music Lovers?

Raam-Lakshman composed songs for films that provided the most wholesome entertainment. The Basuri and Accordion duo made music from their heart that listeners could easily connect to. Even though Raam or Surendra of the duo could not live to watch the success of Agent Vinod released in 1977, Laxman did not want to stop making music or change the name of their duo even after his partner’s demise. His contribution to Music has been engraved on the golden pages of Bollywood forever. Whatever he made left a lasting impact and is here to stay.

Can You Score A 10/10 In This Amit Trivedi Quiz?

In times like these when creativity has taken a toll in the Bollywood Music Industry, composers like Amit Trivedi are hard to find. He is a pure representation of passion, dedication, innovation and creativity despite being lured by producers and labels into creating remixes.

His love for making music is greater than money, fame or quick success, so he does not believe in remixes or copying music that has already been done and dusted with.

He is like a whiff of fresh air in the otherwise mundane music scenario.

His rise to prominence came with Dev.D, but even his first film “Aamir” got him showered with a lot of love and respect. Dev. D became a hit particularly because of the songs. It was the first time in the history of Bollywood that the songs of a film helped it become a blockbuster hit.

How Amit Gets His Musical Inspirations In The Middle Of The Night?

Amit Trivedi With Anurag Kashyap

Source: https://bit.ly/3fdIxSy

Amit Trivedi confesses that musical inspirations come to him even in the midnight around 3am, 4am and there are times when he’s just left clueless and is not able to create anything. There is no specific place or time for an idea or inspiration to come to mind.

A composer needs to get a good idea about the script of the film, the situation and all to create the best music.

Amit is not just a renowned Bollywood Music composer, but he has started working on his independent label called “ATAzaad” as well.

Did you know that before coming into the Bollywood world and getting noticed by Anurag Kashyap, he worked for a long time creating advertisement jingles?

His biggest inspiration is A.R Rahman, whom he considers to be the God of Music. As a child, he was very naughty and didn’t do well in school, so he literally got expelled from his history class for a year. Now, he feels that all his naughtiness has shifted towards his music.

A Musical Pair Unlike No Other- PART 2

Hello everyone! 😃

We are back with a second part for the Lata Mangeshkar and R.D Burman blog titled “What Happened When Lata Mangeshkar sang for R.D Burman?

Lata Mangeshkar still fondly recalls Pancham. On several of his birth and death anniversaries, she talks in public about how much she misses her younger brother who was also her brother in law. She says that very few people know that he was a talented Tabla and Sarod player.

He never stopped experimenting with Music and always tried to introduce something new. She even mentions that the most unfortunate thing was that nobody supported him in his last days, but he always shared his problems with her and continues to rule over the hearts of Bollywood Music lovers because of his classic compositions and good behaviour.

What Kept R.D Burman Going?

The first composition of his life for a Bengali song was sung by Lata herself, which had her name “Amar Malati Lata”. The Hindi version of it was called “Hum Aur Tum The Saathi” and was sung by Kishore Kumar in “Hamare Tumhare”(1979).

The Fiat owner had a never-ending love for swimming, playing the mouth organ, harvesting chillies and good food.

We could not cover some of R.D’s most unique compositions sung by Lata Mangeshkar in the previous Gaana Pehchaana blog, so let us have a look at them in this one.

Kya Janoon Sajan (1967)

Kya Jaanu Sajan Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://bit.ly/3uR7AAl

Music: R.D Burman

Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

Movie: Baharon Ke Sapne

The rippling sound created in the music at the beginning of the melody and the variations in the sound of the instruments played in the backdrop show junior Burman’s talent as a composer. Lata Mangeshkar’s singing style was so regal that people cannot forget the song.

At times, it even becomes difficult for classical singers to sing it properly.

The otherworldly beauty of the 3-dimensional set and Rajesh Khanna, Asha Parekh’s vivid expression of emotions are like gems encrusted on gold, as the song is pure gold.

Bhai Battur (1968)

Bhai Battur Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://bit.ly/3eOrAOo

Music: R.D Burman

Lyrics: Rajendra Krishan

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

Movie: Padosan

The tinkling sound of the Jal Tarang, in the beginning, sounds like the tinkling of bangles or jhumkas.

Like all the other songs from “Padosan”, even ” Bhai Battur” is extremely popular due to Saira Banu and Sunil Dutt’s class apart acting. The song depicts a comic sequence. We love watching Saira sing and dance in the shower.

“Bhai Battur” is a favourite of music lovers because of the delicate harkats and all. If you haven’t heard ” Bhai Battur, Bhai Battur Ab Jayenge Kitni Door” yet, watch Padosan or view the video on YouTube.

Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon (1976)

Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://bit.ly/3olXzc4

Music: R.D Burman

Lyrics: Anand Bakshi

Singers: Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar

Movie: Mehbooba

An immortal song that made R.D Burman hard to forget. It is believed that when R.D asked Kishore Kumar to sing it, he said that he won’t be able to attempt it because it was too difficult for him and would sing only on one condition, that is if Lata Mangeshkar sings it first. R.D agreed and Lata sang it, after which Kishore carefully listened to it for 7 days, before attempting to sing it.

The setting for the score was extremely spooky. It looks eerier because of the rain falling in the background and Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini reliving their past lives.

Dekho Maine Dekha Hain Ye Ek Sapna (1981)

Dekho Maine Dekha Hain Ye Ek Sapna Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://bit.ly/3ycytkc

Music: R.D Burman

Lyrics: Anand Bakshi

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar, Amit Kumar

Movie: Love Story

All songs from the 1981 debut film starring newcomers Kumar Gaurav and Vijayeta Pandit became Megahits. They were all R.D Burman compositions. Till today, most music enthusiasts are in love with the beautiful lyrics of this song that describe a happy home in the city of flowers.

The entire melody is a description of how Gaurav and Vijayeta make their home happy, functional and comfortable. It’s just their dream and imagination about the future that makes it so heart touching. This track got R.D Burman nominated for Filmfare in the Best Music category.

Tere Liye Palkon Ki Jhalar (1981)

Tere Liye Palkon Ki Jhalkar Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://bit.ly/3yaDFVM

Music: R.D Burman

Lyrics: Nida Fazli

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

Movie: Harare

This one is Lata Mangeshkar’s  self-confessed R.D Burman favourite. Even though she has many favourites, this is really close to her heart. The soft and peaceful melody can make your day if you listen to it in the morning.

Tina Munim and Randhir Kapoor do proper justice to R.D’s heartfelt music and Lata’s singing with their immaculate acting. Nida Fazli, the Padma Shri winner for his contribution to literature penned down the magnetic lyrics, which made it more special. It topped the music charts in the ’80s and ’90s and could be repeatedly heard on various radio stations.

Jaane Kaise Kab Kahan Iqrar (1982)

Jaane Kaise Kab Kaha Iqrar Ho Gaya Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://bit.ly/3ogLcxO

Music: R.D Burman

Lyrics: Anand Bakshi

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

Movie: Shakti

Another evergreen hit that portrayed R.D Burman as a hero. Lata Mangeshkar and her sister Asha Bhosle once said that the thing about Bollywood Music till the ‘90s was that there would be so many songs in one film and each of the songs would be a hit, which is no more the case. We don’t have similar hits. Nowadays, we don’t remember the songs for too long. They come into trend and then vanish away. “Jaane Kaise Kab Kahan Iqrar” has not vanished away from the hearts of music lovers. It is an eternal favourite by R.D Burman, Lata Mangeshkar and Anand Bakshi. Shakti gained popularity only because of this song.

Tujhse Naraaz Nahin Zindagi (1983)

Source: https://bit.ly/3eUj9RT

Music: R.D Burman

Lyrics: Gulzar

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar, Anoop Ghoshal

The female version of this beautiful number has been sung by Lata Mangeshkar whereas the male version was sung by Anoop Ghosh. R.D Burman had put his heart and soul into creating the beautiful music in Raag Pilu which brings out the pain of a mother through Lata’s voice.

Her mellifluous voice poignantly portrays the feelings of a mother who cannot call her husband’s illicit son her own and love him as her own child.

Gulzar won the Filmfare for his heart-stirring lyrics for this track. It is an immensely popular song.

What Lata Didi Says About Her Dear Pancham?

Source: https://bit.ly/3ymKvI3

A few more beans spilt by Lata Mangeshkar about Pancham are that his favourite recording studio was the Film Center in Tardeo Bombay. It was the only existing studio with a gigantic piano in those days which he was fond of.

He gained most of his knowledge on Western Music from Kersi Lord, who possessed a huge collection of long-play records like Jazz, Latin American, Middle Eastern and European Music.

Pancham was not particularly in love with Western Classical Music, but he had an impulse for purchasing all kinds of western instruments sounding offbeat. Once, he purchased a Flanger from America, which produced a unique sound, so he used it for “Dhanno Ki Aankhon Mein” sung by him for the 1977 film Kitaab. It is still considered to be Pancham’s most unique improvisation.

We all know about Pancham’s love for experimentation and thirst for creating the best. He deserved a lot more awards in his lifetime.

What Made This Lyricist A Guinness World Record Breaker?

Have you ever come across Sameer Anjaan’s name on Gaana Pehchaana?

Well, he is the most loved lyricist in B-Town and all through these years, he has only become better at what he does. In several interviews, he mentioned that his talent is god’s gift to him. What he does comes so naturally to him, that he feels like some supernatural powers help him pen down the heart piercing words!!

It’s not an easy task to get established as a lyricist in the industry. Even Sameer’s father, the popular Anjaan, had to go through various ups and downs for almost 8 years, before he could achieve something, so he did not want his son to get into this field.

Anjaan even requested Chitragupta – the phenomenal Music Director to tell Sameer that he might be a great poetry writer, but he’s not up to the mark for the industry. Chitragupta couldn’t discourage him and rest everything is history. Sameer was destined to be a famous lyric writer, hence he became one. No power in the universe could stop him.

A Special Game For Our Fans (TMK-362 Themed “Sameer, The Lyricist!”)

Sameer’s talent could not remain hidden, which is why he was awarded the Filmfare and his name reached the Guinness Book of World Records in 2016 for being the only lyricist to have written more than 5000 songs. He is still writing. The maximum anybody could ever write.

He deserves a salute for this, hence we have created this particular game as an ode to him. Install the Gaana Pehchaana app on Android or iOS to play it.

Here are a few classic creations by Sameer.

Nazar Ke Saamne (1990)

Nazar Ke Saamne Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/GbILe87

Music: Nadeem Shravan

Lyrics: Sameer

Singers: Anuradha Paudwal, Kumar Sanu

Movie: Aashiqui

The Aashiqui soundtrack became a national favourite and has remained so. Nobody had expected the film or the songs to become so popular, because it starred Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal, who were just newcomers with no prior experience, but whether it be the magic of Sameer’s lyrics or the magnetic voices of the hit 90’s musical jodi Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal, “Nazar Ke Saamne” always remained in front of our nazar, jigar, kaan and dil. The song continues to have a large fan following and Sameer won his first Filmfare Award for this song.

Mujhe Neend Na Aaye (1990)

Mujhe Neend Na Aaye Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/rbILy4U

Music: Anand, Milind

Lyrics: Sameer

Singers: Anuradha Paudwal, Udit Narayan

Movie: Dil

“Dil” movie was Sameer’s ladder to success. It made him an overnight sensation. The entire Dil Soundtrack album has been written by him. There were around 5 million cassettes of the album sold worldwide, which made it the maximum sold Bollywood Music Album of all time, along with “Maine Pyar Kiya”.

“Neend Na Aaye” reminds us of Amir and Madhuri’s sizzling chemistry. Sameer’s lyrics gave life to Anand Milind’s fresh composition sung beautifully by Anuradha and Udit expressing the love and yearning through their voices.

Dekha Hain Pehli Baar (1991)

Dekha Hain Pehli Baar Saajan Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/BbILs9B

Music: Nadeem – Shravan

Lyrics: Sameer

Singers: Alka Yagnik, S.P Balasubramaniam

Movie: Saajan

The “Saajan” Music Album sold the highest number of copies in 1991. It is so popular that it will forever remain on the tip of every Indian’s tongue. Sameer’s tracks with Nadeem-Shravan have never been a failure and especially when legends like Alka Yagnik and S.P Balasubramaniam sing together, they can break down mountains and cross over mighty oceans. The beat of a dafli or ghungroo can be consistently heard through the entire song. Whether you have watched the film or not, you’ll love watching the song video again and again as Salman and Madhuri’s eyes drift into the scene of a jeep disappearing into the evening sky.

Akhiyaan Milaoon Kabhi (1995)

Akhiyaan Milaaon Kabhi Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/MbIK41Q

Music: Nadeem, Shravan

Lyrics: Sameer

Singers: Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan

Movie: Raja

“Akhiyaan Milaoon Kabhi Ankhiyan Churau, Kya Tune Kiya Jaadu” is well known for Madhuri’s comic eye movements and Madhuri, Sanjay’s signature dance moves. Madhuri’s funky costume became a style statement.

Sameer created the lyrics that rhyme and intertwine so beautifully that they sound great as a pop number. The lyrics would even sound great if sung in some other genre. That’s the beauty of the song. Alka and Udit did their best to make it to the top of the charts in 1995. In fact, it still sounds fresh and new anytime you play it.

What Is Mobile Number? (1999)

What Is Mobile Number Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/KbILpHi

Music: Anu Mallik

Lyrics: Sameer

Singers: Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik

Movie: Haseena Maan Jayegi

Sameer once said that a Music Director had told him that the relationship between a director and lyricist is similar to the relationship between a husband and wife. This song absolutely proves that. Sameer could not have created the dhinchak Lyrics without Anu Mallik’s dhinchak music. Sonu and Alka create a fun atmosphere for Govinda and Karishma, who are trying to get connected to each other’s mobile number. It’s a happy go lucky song that will make you feel relaxed and cheerful anytime you listen to it.

Jabse Tere Naina (2007)

Jab Se Tere Naina Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/HbILgrY

Music: Monty Sharma

Lyrics: Sameer Anjaan

Singer: Shaan

Movie: Saawariya

Sameer is indeed blessed by God, otherwise it is next to impossible for mortals to create lyrics of this level. Popular Composer Pyarelal Sharma’s nephew Monty Sharma and Shaan wove a musical masterpiece with Sameer’s lyrics and most importantly, it is Ranbir Kapoor, who brought the song to life with his class apart acting as a master artist. The more you listen to it, the more you’ll fall in love with the song.

Pehli Nazar Mein (2008)

Pehli Nazar Mein Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/zbIK2GG

Music: Pritam

Lyrics: Sameer

Singer: Atif Aslam

Movie: Race

“Pehli Nazar Mein” has been a big part of any 90’s kid’s life who grew up in the 2000’s. It is an original soundtrack from the Race album which comprises a few remixes as well.

We love the rhythmic beats and well synced lyrics and obviously Atif singing the beautiful words by Sameer casts a deep imprint on our hearts. Akshaye Khanna and Bipasha Basu set the screen on fire with their glamorous acting skills. The video is full of suspense.

Inspiring Sameer

Anjaan wanted Sameer to become a C.A or work in the bank. He got a job in the bank, but within a few days, he realised that it is not his world, so he left it and came back to Mumbai to do what he loved the most.

Let’s always remember this memorable quote by Sameer that would cheer us up on all the dark and gloomy days.

“When you fall, never get up without gaining anything. Always find something on the way up. If there are only rocks, grasp one to throw in order to defend yourself”. He teaches us to learn from our failures and to remain persistent.

Bollywood’s Obsession With Zulfen Songs

Every civilization and culture on earth has had a fascination for healthy, long and lustrous tresses. All the Bollywood songs on Zulfen indicated not just a woman’s tresses, but also that of a man.

Long hair has always been linked to wealth, power and good health. It is even a status symbol in many communities.

Just like heroes from popular fairy tales like Rapunzel are attracted to a woman’s hair, even Bollywood heroes love singing songs dedicated to the heroine’s tresses.

Hair is not just a symbol of romance, but in mythological stories like the Mahabharata and Iliad, women like Draupadi and Medusa can also be seen seeking vengeance with the help of their hair.

Let’s see how our Bollywood actors go about wooing their leading ladies with shiny tresses, in some of the most popular Bollywood songs.

Udein Jab Jab Zulfen Teri (1957)

Udein Jab Jab Zulfein Teri Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/wbl7qPE

Music: O.P Nayyar

Lyrics: Sahir Ludhianvi

Singers: Asha Bhosle, Mohammad Rafi

Movie: Naya Daur

A popular song with satirical undertones. “Udein Jab Jab Zulfen Teri” will always be close to the hearts of Bollywood Music lovers from every era.

Vyjayantimala’s girl gang clap their hands and tap their feet to dance in perfect coordination. Similarly Dilip Kumar and his boy gang are in perfect coordination. This is actually a masterpiece by O.P Nayyar and Ludhianvi. Asha Bhosle and Mohammad Rafi singing for Vyjayantimala and Dilip Kumar, made the duo extremely popular. We just can’t stop admiring the beauty of the lyrics “Ude Jab Jab Zulfen Teri, Kawariyo Ka Dil Machle Jind Meriye”.

Zulf Ke Phande (1958)

Zulf Ke Phande Mein Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/abl45J7

Music: Omkar Prasad Nayyar

Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri

Singer: Mohammed Rafi

Movie: Mujrim

“Zulf Ke Phande” stars Johnny Walker and is obviously not a romantic track. It’s a comic one. The song talks about Johnny Walker’s dilemma as he was ensnared by the beauty of somebody’s hair which got him imprisoned.

Majrooh Sultanpuri’s satirical lyrics have a reference to himself “Ishq ki duniya ajab hai kaha tha Majrooh ne kal / Kuchh na banega chaahe chakale mein ghoome chaahe Tajmahal..”. Omkar Prasad Nayyar’s music brings the comic situation to life and Mohammed Rafi had a special singing style for Johnny Walker’s songs. Even Johnny’s prison mates love watching him sing it.

Raat Nikhri Hui Zulf Bikhri Hui (1960)

Raat Nikhri Hui Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/2bl7ehb

Music: Usha Khanna

Lyrics: K Manohar

Singers: Mukesh

Movie: Hum Hindustani

An all time favourite Zulf song starring the chocolate boy- Joy Mukherjee and the dancing legend- Helen. “Raat Nikhri Hui” would absolutely melt your heart, more so because of Mukesh’s buttery voice. Usha Khanna’s attempt at composing the music did not go to waste. She did an absolutely great job at it. If you love singing, you’ll enjoy humming to it’s heart lifting tune.

Bikhra Ke Zulfen (1961)

Zulf Bikhra Ke Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/2bl7tSS

Music: Ravi

Lyrics: Rajinder Krishan

Singers: Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar

Movie: Nazrana

A heartwarming love song from a tragic film. “Bikhra Ke Zulfen” was shot in a scenic garden where Raj Kapoor sings for Vyjayanthimala. He is so awestruck at the sight of her tresses that he asks her to not come to the garden with open hair and when she asks why?, he replies that the flowers would feel shy if caught admiring the beauty of her tresses. In return, Vyjayanthimala tells him to stop singing love verses, otherwise the bees would make fun. Mukesh and Lata’s singing cum conversation sounds interesting.

Teri Zulfon Se Judaai To Nhi Maangi Thi (1961)

Zulf Song Dev Anand

Source: https://cutt.ly/Rbl7oQO

Music: Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics: Hasrat Jaipuri

Singer: Mohammad Rafi

Movie: Jab Pyar KisiSe Hota Hain

Couldn’t skip a zulf song starring Dev Anand. He’s a personal favourite and the song can actually set the mood for a musical evening. The film had a confusing storyline, but the movie as well as the songs were big hits.

Dev sings it for Asha Parekh, even after she rebukes him.

Only lyricists like Hasrat Jaipuri could have written songs like this one. The music by Shankar and Jaikishan is replete with the divine strumming of the violins. Give it a try, if you haven’t heard it yet.

Ye Hai Reshmi Zulfon Ka Andhera (1965)

Yeh Hain Reshmi Zulfon Ka Andhera Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/9bxQv8D

Music: O.P Nayyar

Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri

Singer: Asha Bhosle

Movie: Mere Sanam

The film “Mere Sanam” was a remake of the 1961 romantic comedy ” Come September”. The song seems to be shrouded in a cloud of deep mystery. Surprisingly, most of the compositions for our zulfen songs would be composed by O.P Nayyar. You’ll love hearing Asha’s voice echo through, as Mumtaz tries to convey some secret message to Biswajit and the sequence becomes quite intense.

Zulfon Ko Hata Le (1966)

Zulfon Ko Hata Le Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/5bl7j8u

Music: O.P Nayyar

Lyrics: S.H Bihari

Singers: Mohammed Rafi

Movie: Sawan Ki Ghata

This is one of the most popular Zulf tracks in Bollywood. The handsome Manoj Kumar can be seen wooing the demure Sharmila Tagore, who has the most beautiful hair covering her face. Sharmila was known for her typical hairstyle in those days. The music by Nayyar can calm your mind like never before. Rafi’s deep, husky voice does perfect justice to A.H Bihari’s string of precious words. Enjoy watching the video set in picturesque Himachal Pradesh.

O Haseena ZulfonWale Jaane Jahan (1966)

O Haseena Zulfonwaali Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/Yv2YtRh

Music: R.D Burman

Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri

Singers: Asha Bhosle, Mohammed Rafi

Movie: Teesri Manzil

In this one Shammi Kapoor, the Elvis Presley of Bollywood and Helen, the Anglo Burmese Dancing Diva light up the stage with their moves. In fact, they made the song more popular. R.D Burman and Asha Bhosle always rocked with these pop and cabaret numbers. The composition is so powerful that it has still not lost it’s charm. Maybe we might even get to hear a remix of it in the future. The part where Shammi plays the Saxophone is worth watching.

Yeh Reshmi Zulfein Yeh Sharbati Aankhein (1969)

Yeh Reshmi Zulfen Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/NkJgm4i

Music: Laxmikant, Pyarelal

Lyrics: Anand Bakshi, Lakshmikant, Pyare Lal

Singer: Mohammed Rafi

Movie: Do Raaste

We can still hear love birds humming to the tunes of this classic number. An all-time favourite! Composed, written and sung by legends like Laxmikant Pyarelal, Anand Bakshi and Mohammed Rafi, this song is like an ode dedicated to Mumtaz by Rajesh Khanna in the film. Khanna can be seen singing it in awe of her mesmerising beauty. Such compositions can hardly be heard these days. It’s a precious number from our huge treasury of old Bollywood Romantic songs.

Ye Zulf Kaisi Hai (1972)

Ye Zulf Kaisi Hain Song 1972

Source: https://cutt.ly/6bl7cEm

Music: Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics: Anand Bakshi

Singers: Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi

Movie: Piya Ka Ghar

This song belongs to a time when marriages in India were mostly arranged and the bride and groom would not meet each other before marriage. There didn’t exist any technology like WhatsApp, Skype, Zoom or Facetime, so it would be absolutely impossible for the bride and groom to talk to each other. The only thing they had, would be a photograph.

Here both Malti and Ram are shown having each other’s photograph. Malti’s thick, long hair and gorgeous beauty makes Ram dedicate this wonderful song to her. On the other hand, even Malti thinks how handsome Ram would be in reality?

Cham Cham (2016)

Cham Cham Song Gaana Pehchaana

Source: https://cutt.ly/sbxQxhT

Music: Meet Bros

Lyrics: Kumaar, Meet Bros

Singer: Monali Thakur

Movie: Baaghi

These days, we don’t get to hear songs with the word zulf in it. So, we were all taken aback to hear the very first line of the “Cham Cham” song which goes like “Zulfon Se Bandh Liye Badal”. It’s been so many decades since lyricists felt that the word zulf is outdated, but hats off to Kumaar and Meet Bros for bringing it back after so long. It’s a sweet number sung by our sweet singer Monali and we loved watching Shraddha dance to it’s beats on a rainy morning. She dances so well that even the villain is shown to be awestruck by her beauty.

Why Zulfen Songs Are So Close To Our Hearts

Usage of the word Zulf has slowly disappeared from Bollywood songs after the 1970’s, but, just like we have some very dear memories and stories attached to our zulfen, similarly, even Bollywood actresses, music directors and singers have some vivid memories attached to Zulfen songs.

All through our childhood, we had our grandmothers and mothers taking care of our hair. They would oil our hair and tie it properly so that it became lush and long.

Bollywood actresses like Jaya Bhaduri, Sharmila Togore and Rekha who were renowned for their long hair also reported to have a very simple hair care routine in their youth. In fact, Sharmila Tagore’s beehive hairstyle became so famous, that every actress of her generation began following it. Till today, millions of girls and women try out her style to add a touch of retro to their hair.

He taught us that giving up is the last option, even if you fail a thousand times.

Arijit comes from a musical background, but had to go through a lot of struggle to rise to fame.

His guru, Mr. Rajendra, asked him to participate in a Reality Show. He could not win, but stood 6th in it. A song that he had sung for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, didn’t get selected for some reason and he lost touch with him. Later, he also sang for an album by Tips which did not release. He kept trying, but misfortunes did not leave him and after all the failures he finally got the chance to assist some renowned music directors, which was his stepping stone to success.

This month, it’s his birthday on the 25th of April, so Gaana Pehchaana has created a fun quiz on him. If you are a die hard fan, you’ll surely be able to answer the questions correctly.

An Inseparable Musical Trio And Their Inspiring Bollywood Journey

There’s a saying “If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. For your passion will lead you right into your purpose. Today Gaana Pehchaana brings the story of the most legendary trio in Hindi Film Music “Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy”, that will inspire you to follow your passion.

Shankar, a Software Engineer began learning Classical Music at the age of 5. As he grew up, situations led him to pursue software engineering, but he continued singing along with his engineering and later on Ehsaan who had been composing some advertisement jingles compelled him to give up on his profession to be a full time musician and since then, there has been no looking back for him.

Ehsaan was in Los Angeles, in another corner of the world. He was learning music and learnt a lot in L.A. L.A being the Music Capital of the world. After his return, he once again became involved with jingles. Loy on the other hand belonged to a musical family and first struck his six strings when he was only thirteen. When Loy moved to Delhi, he got the chance to create Music for T.V shows like Fauji, Quiz Time etc. On returning back to Mumbai, he met Ehsaan, with whom he began composing music.

It is Music and the different faiths that bind the 3 of them together.

At the beginning of the 2000’s Javed Akhtar could be seen penning down almost all the songs composed by Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy including this one. This composition is so unique that even if you heard it in 2006, it will stay in some corner of your mind. The track became a record breaking hit, so there is hardly any Indian who did not hear it. The main attraction of the video is Rani Mukherjee’s saree and it’s changing color along with the background. Haven’t heard it yet? Check out the official video to dive into Shahrukh and Rani’s chemistry in the most unexpected locations like a taxi crowded street, a forestland full of gorgeous maple trees, or a Christmas wonderland.

Lyrics: Javed Akhtar

Singers: Shankar Mahadevan

Movie: Luck By Chance

Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy have a style with all genres of music. Whatever feelings you wish to express, they’ll compose original music based on that. The rhythm, instruments and everything else will be in sync with the circumstances portrayed. Luck By Chance has a great soundtrack with some of the best singers, new and old. This song in particular is about aspiring actors with big dreams, who are trying their best at cracking the auditions. Javed Akhtar had written down the soulful lyrics and Shankar Mahadevan’s voice makes you relate to Farhan Akhtar’s trials.

Senorita (2011)

Music: Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy

Lyrics: Javed Akhtar

Singers: Farhan Akhtar, Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol

Movie: Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

The movie and this song clearly depict that life is short and you got to enjoy it to the fullest. Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy tried to add some Spanish flavours to the music. Javed Akhtar tried his hand at the superb combination of Spanish and English wordings and surprisingly Farhan, Hrithik and Abhay sing the entire song on their own. The best was their experimentation with the Spanish folk dance “Flamenco” along with the native dancers.
