Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! is a popular comedy film released in the year 2008. It stars Abhay Deol, Paresh Rawal, Manu Rishi, Archana Puran Singh, Neetu Chandra and Manjot Singh. Dibakar Banerjee directed it.

In the film, a boy from a poor, broken family from West Delhi, grows up and becomes a charismatic, fearless man robbing the elite class of various important cities in India specially. He did not just do it out of necessity, but he did it for fun.

After getting arrested by the special crime branch inspector Devender Singh, Lovinder or Lucky reflects on his past life, his childhood, the second marriage of his Dad, his relationship with his siblings, his entry into the world of crime and his association with the goon Gogi Arora; his romance and marriage with Sonal and how he was betrayed by his business partner. In the meantime, the media speculates on how he stole T.V sets, video cassette recorders, shirts, jewelry boxes, dogs, greeting cards and a lot more in the different burglaries committed by him in various cities like Bangalore, Chandigarh, etc.

Now, let us read about the songs from the film composed by our very own Sneha Khanwalkar. GannaPehchaana has many such reviews, scroll through the blogs and reviews section on the app to enjoy them.

Tu Raja Ki Raj Dulari

Sneha Khanwalkar is an underrated music director, but her talent makes us wonder how she does magic or if she has learnt any magic spells from somewhere. She borrowed the idea for this song from some Haryanvi folk song. Most Haryanvi people loved this melody because of its rustic touch. Now, people are slowly forgetting the movie, but these songs are once again gaining popularity because of the brilliant music, the awesome charm, the mood, the lyrics by Mange Ram, the way Rajbir has sung it and the entire video.

Oye Lucky

Sneha Khanwalkar came up with music like never before. Even this one is quite different. These songs have a special feel. They sound loud, they sound rough, rustic and have the aura of folk songs. Sneha Khanwalkar has composed these songs so beautifully that they will stay with you long after you have stopped listening to them. Dibakar Banerjee,

Kanu Behl and Venu ISC’s lyrics have a beautiful poetic effect and Mika Singh rocked with his singing.

Hooriyan

Another wacky track from the Oye Lucky album. This song is a satirical melody with most of the lyrics written in Punjabi. The song has fast beats. It is not slow or soft. It is quick and loud with music that has a beautiful rhythmic pattern. Sneha did her best at creating something for the kleptomaniac protagonist. Dibakar Banerjee and Amitosh Nagpal’s lyrics for the song are just awesome. Brijesh Shandilya and Himani Kapoor sang their best.

Superchor

This is one of the most underrated songs from one of the most underrated movies. The song might not sound pleasing to some, whereas some might find it highly addictive, Sneha Khanwalkar’s compositions are not what you hear commonly. They seem to belong to a different world. Abhay Deol’s magnetic presence in the music videos has helped the videos get all the likes and positive reviews. Dilbahar has sung outstandingly well. Dibakar Banerjee and Amitosh Nagpal’s lyrics are highly creative for this song on theft and burglaries.

Rating: 1.5/5

Jugni

Sneha Khanwalkar shows her creative side through these songs. It takes a different approach to understanding her music. Jugni is one of the most loved songs in the album. It’s peppy, rhythmic and heart-touching. Des Raj Lakhani sang so well that he became popular with this song. Sneha Khanwalkar’s husband, Kanu Behl and Venu Isc came up with super awesome lyrics. All in all, this is a great song.

Concluding Words

The Oye Lucky and Jugni songs have remix versions as well. DJ Sunny and DJ Zoya Iman have remixed the Oye Lucky song whereas Des Raj Lachkani and Dj A-Myth have remixed the Jugni one. Both of these are perfect for the DJ nights and DJ events but otherwise, they don’t sound that great. The original versions are way better. We finally conclude that Sneha Khanwalkar is not highly popular, but she is completely different as a composer. Her music is deviating. Her compositions might not be slow, soft, rocking or trending, but they have a rough, rural charm with great beats and high originality.

OUR PICK(S): We choose “Oye Lucky” as our favorite song from the album.
