Lyrics: A.M. Turaz, Swaroop Khan
Singers: Shreya Ghoshal, Swaroop Khan
We just can’t stop appreciating filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his splendid filmmaking skills. Haven’t we all waited patiently for his new film ‘Padmavati’, Which is about to release on the 1st of December 2017? Well, there is still one month’s time left for the movie to release, but the first song from the film called ‘Ghoomar’ is out and people all over the world are going gaga over it. The video for this bollywood song by T-Series has received more than 29 million views as of now.
Deepika Padukone looks ethereal and astonishingly beautiful as Rani Padmini of Chittor. Bhansali has attempted to make the movie based on the information provided in Padmavat, an epic poem written in 1540 CE by Malik Muhammad Jayasi in the Awadhi language.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is himself the master musician/composer for this phenomenal track. Our all-time favourite playback singer Shreya Ghoshal and Swaroop Khan, the Indian folk singer from Rajasthan, a contestant of Indian Idol 5 sang this soothing and tuneful melody. The famous Indian poet and lyricist A.M. Turaz penned down the Hindi part of the lyrics, whereas Swaroop Khan penned down the Rajasthani part. Kruti Mahesh Midya of the Dance India Dance fame choreographed the steps for the song and Jyothi D Tommaar the expert choreographer who has taught the dance form to many women from the royal families personally trained Deepika Padukone and helped her improve upon her steps.
Ghoomar is an authentic dance form, So Mr. Bhansali and the whole crew’s main motive was to make the dance to this song stick to its originality and since Deepika played the role of a ‘Royal’ lady, so she had to maintain the decorum followed by the Royal women while performing Ghoomar dance. There is the difference between Royal Ghoomar and Local Ghoomar. Deepika Padukone performed with all the sophistication, grace, subtility and humility. She followed the nuances right from the beginning.
Raja Rawal Ratan Singh of Chittor played by Shahid Kapoor and his first queen Rani Nagmati played by Anupriya Goenka could also be seen in the music video. This beautiful folk song and its lilting tune are sure to stay with you forever.
